Anywhere around the world you’ll get a chance to bump into a
kababayan. Noticeable you’ll be
greeted by their friendly smile, their hospitality and willingness to help
their kapwa Pinoys. And each one of
them if you will ask them why are they working abroad. There will be only one
answer. To seek greener pastures. If they can find greener pastures that would
mean higher pays, larger salaries, and better lives for their families back in
the Philippines.
Of course, all of these has its share of heartaches like:
not being able to attend significant occasions for their family members and of
course they miss their family they left home just to take care of a different
family. Missing your children grow up is the greatest sacrifice an OFW has to
partake. At times, your children needs your love, affection and understanding. In
some cases, due to lack of affection from your husband or wife, they commit
adultery, misguided children turn to drugs because of their broken family. If
only Filipinos would earn as much as they would abroad, nobody would leave
their family behind. It is such a pity that professionals from our country
choose to work abroad because of the higher pay. But if our government would
just offer like the ones abroad they would not have to leave their families
behind and help for the improvement of a different country but our own.
